Scalable Social Impact Strategies for Events
Ways to Implement in Your Event
Three pathways within the social impact continuum, with projects that can be scaled and tailored to align with available resources and meet specific community needs. Different projects serve different goals:
Community Service
These are “giving back” projects that typically require minimal planning and resources. Examples include organizing a donation drive for local schools or partnering with a local organization for a park clean-up.
Community Engagement
These projects involve a deeper level of commitment and collaboration with the community. Unlike community service, community engagement projects are designed to address specific local needs, such as hosting a career fair or organizing a STEM education workshop.
Legacy Project
These are more long-term projects that create lasting impact. They support IEEE’s mission and meet important community needs, often developing over several years in partnership with the local community.
Collaborating with Local Partners

When working with local communities and organizations on a social impact project, it’s important to partner with groups that are deeply rooted in the community and have earned trust and credibility. Allow these partners to lead discussions about the communities needs, as they are best to identify opportunities for meaningful impact. Strive to build a partnership that is mutually beneficial and that can grow to be a long-term partnership.
